A few girlfriends and I decided to make a short trip to Tulum, Mexico over Labor Day weekend in 2021. We stayed in an all-inclusive resort, Dreams, about an hour and a half ride to resort from Cancun airport. Dreams Tulum Resort and Spa has beach access and is off the main road to Tulum.

Dreams check-in process for Preferred guests was a bit lengthy but filled with great information. We arrived around noon and our room was ready at check-in time, 3:00pm. They carted us to our room, luggage, and all. Our room was in the Adults Only section with a swim out pool and views of tropical plants. Our room was nestled in a far corner of the property with two double beds, a jacuzzi tub and separate shower and toilet.

Since we had a preferred room, we had access to two premium bars and a preferred beach area. The preferred beach area was beautiful with canopy beds and loungers under thatch umbrellas. Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate during my stay, so we did not get to enjoy the beach area and activities.

We did the Girls Getaway Package which included breakfast in our room one morning, manicure and pedicure in the spa, and champagne upon arrival.

We scheduled the day we wanted breakfast in our room when we checked in. That morning came and no breakfast arrived at the time we specified. We called down and they did not receive our order. We ordered and it came within 45 minutes. It was full of fruit, eggs, toast, and mimosas. A nice variety to start the day.

We opted to do our spa day on our second day. I hopped into the pedicure station and got my toes soaking! My girl started by taking off my polish and then proceeded with scrubbing my feet with a salt scrub and a mask of some sort. The manicurist I had seemed like she may have been new and slower than the others. When she began painting my nails my friends were done and leaving! We all started at the same time, but I was there about 20 minutes longer than they were, which was around 2 hours total. When she was done with me, I left to join my friends. I quickly found out that one of my friends had a student and for some reason refused to paint her middle toes with topcoat because ‘they may hit each other, and we just don’t do that here’. Odd, right?! The other girl and I had no problem with getting a topcoat on each nail! We laughed it off and went on about our day.

The next day my polish on my hands started to chip and became sticky, capturing every piece of lint I touched! I’m not sure if this was a combination of using SPF and the topcoat or what. I scrubbed those bad boys like a mad person, wanting to believe the SPF I used lead to that. Scrubbing didn’t work and I eventually just took the polish off. The Girlfriends Package was a great idea but maybe not worth it. Although breakfast in the room was nice, but they didn’t receive our order, so we had to call it in and wait for over an hour on our last day.

Let’s look at the positives. The staff of the resort were all super friendly and greeting us at every corner. Getting a taxi called was easy with the help of the guys in the front lobby. The longest we waited was about five to ten minutes max. It was like they were constantly on standby for us. The staff in all the restaurants and bars were upbeat and friendly too. I was the only one in my group who drinks coffee, and Coco Café was great to me! First off, who doesn’t drink coffee?! Anyhow, the barista was super sweet and greeted me each morning.

The best food we had at the resort was at Gohan, a sushi restaurant. The place is small and next to the cute chapel in the courtyard. Get there early to get your name on the list! Bordeaux is the French restaurant was my other favorite and is adults only. Adults Only places were nice around the resort, but kid don’t seem to be a bother to us either, one of the girls has 2. World Cafe was your typical all-inclusive buffet. They offered all sorts of dishes and desserts, and they were tasty!

The pool and beach area of the resort were beautiful. Several pools to choose from, one included activities like water volleyball. Had that sun been out, I would’ve been in the activities pool all day! The preferred guest area for the beach has cabana beds and was a small, adults only section. The area was beautiful, but again, that darn sun didn’t show up for our trip so I did not get to enjoy it.

We traveled during COVID and thankfully they included testing onsite at the resort. We met at one of the rooms, signed in, and got our tests done quickly. We had to check with the front desk to get our results, thankfully all negative!

Overall Dreams Tulum was a fun experience and I’d recommended visiting if you don’t want to stay in the busier hotel area.
