My third day in Tulum included a tour to Isa Mujeres. Join me as I talk about our island hoping catamaran tour!

Isla Mujeres is a paradise across the Bahia de Mujeres (Bay of Women) from Cancun. It has a laid-back vibe that offers water sports, shopping, and exploring. It’s known for the beaches and crystal-clear waters.
Let’s start the journey there! As soon as I stepped on the catamaran, I wasn’t sure if I wanted to yell ‘SAIL’ at the top of my lungs, Awolnation style or if I want to softly sing ‘Sailing, it takes me away’ in the old school ‘N Sync style. Enough of that, let’s talk about the catamaran tour I took to Isla Mujeres! It started with a shuttle from Tulum at 7:00am to a marina in Cancun…about an hour and a half ride. We made it safely to the marina and got our wristbands to enter the boat and still had about an hour to spare before we boarded. There is a required environment fee of $13 that we paid in addition to our tour.
Before we knew it we were boarding the catamaran and our journey started! Our captain was trying to outrun a storm that was rolling in, so we left quick. Drinks were served and about 20 minutes in, we stopped to snorkel. Because it was storming close by, I chose not to jump in. Typically, I would be the first one jumping off the boat but not in that crazy storm! Several people snorkeled for about 15 minutes while I enjoyed drinks in the cabin area with the others.
As we sailed onward, the water was crystal blue and mesmerizing! The crew on our boat were great at providing entertainment. Alex was our MC and he was full of energy! We got to see where each group was from and learned everyone’s names. Once the drinks got flowing, the dancing started with the salty breeze flowing through our hair. Our first stop was a small place to get lunch. It was served buffet style with a few small shops around. Not much to see in that area so we were not there long.
The next stop was Isla Mujeres! When we docked there were tiki bars, beach goers, swings, and all sorts of fun things around. We wondered around some of the streets and into a few shops. The shops were more of what you would expect in a tourist area…filled with knick-knack souvenirs. We wondered around for about 2 hours then returned to the boat.
Shortly after departing, we stopped at our last place off the coast of Isla Mujeres. This was an area for swimming in some beautiful, crystal-clear water! We were only there for 10 minutes before we headed back to the marina in Cancun.

All together the tour was about 10 hours. About 7 hours on the catamaran and 3 hours in the shuttle. It made for a long day, but it was a great experience! When we made it back to the resort, we showered and got dinner. It wasn’t long after that that we concluded our last night there and went to bed early.
Have you been to Isla Mujeres? What did you think?
